The challenge

Nexora Analytics ran a data dashboard product on an aging server-rendered stack that had grown past its original design. Page loads regularly exceeded six seconds on data-heavy views, the codebase had no clear component boundaries after years of incremental changes, and new user onboarding required manual setup steps that caused a meaningful share of signups to abandon before reaching first value. Engineering velocity had slowed to the point where shipping a new dashboard widget took weeks instead of days.

Leadership needed a rebuild that would not just look modern, but fix the underlying performance and architecture problems limiting growth.

The solution

We re-architected the platform from the ground up on Next.js with the App Router, using React Server Components to keep data-heavy dashboard views fast without shipping unnecessary JavaScript to the browser. Real-time data streaming replaced polling-based updates, so charts and metrics update live instead of on a fixed refresh interval. Role-based access control was rebuilt as a first-class part of the data layer rather than a UI-only restriction.

Onboarding was redesigned around a single guided flow that provisions a working workspace with sample data immediately, moving the "aha moment" from after setup to before it. We also rebuilt the component library with a consistent design system so future features ship faster and stay visually consistent.

Stack

Next.js (App Router) and React for the frontend, server components and streaming for data-heavy views, a real-time data layer for live dashboard updates, and a component design system shared across the product. Performance budgets and Core Web Vitals checks were enforced in the build pipeline so regressions could not ship unnoticed.

Results

Average dashboard load time dropped from over six seconds to 1.2 seconds. Signup-to-activation conversion improved enough to drive 280% growth in active workspaces over the following two quarters, and 90-day user retention improved by 41% as the redesigned onboarding got new users to value faster and the real-time experience reduced churn from users who previously found the product sluggish.
