Design Handoff Checklist for Faster Web Builds
Published August 6, 2026 - 247 Digital Marketing Agency
Slow websites are often slow handoffs. Designers ship pretty frames; engineers invent spacing, states, and breakpoints. A checklist turns taste into buildable specs. This is the pack we use when design and web development collaborate for US launches.
1. Tokens before pages
Colors, type scale, spacing, radii, shadows — named and documented. If you only have a logo, start with a lite brand system so tokens are not invented mid-sprint.
2. Components with states
Buttons, inputs, cards, nav, modals: default, hover, focus, error, disabled. Missing states are the #1 source of “we’ll polish later” debt that never ships.
3. Responsive truth
Desktop is not enough. Provide mobile and tablet frames or clear reflow rules. Call out sticky headers, overflow tables, and form layouts that break on small screens.
4. Asset package
SVG icons, compressed images with intended aspect ratios, logo variants (light/dark), favicon, and OG image. Name files for production, not “final-final-3”.
5. Content and SEO fields
Real (or approved draft) copy in the file. Annotate H1/H2 structure, alt text intent, and any schema-sensitive blocks. Empty “lorem” pages create SEO rework after launch.
6. Interaction notes
Motion timing, scroll behavior, carousels, and reduced-motion fallbacks. If video is in the hero, link the cut and poster frame from your video team.
7. QA against design
Pixel-perfect is rare; “within token tolerance” is the goal. Walk key pages together before marketing flips ads on. One shared backlog beats Slack screenshot wars.
Why one-roof helps
When design and engineering share a roadmap, handoff shrinks to a checklist instead of a vendor negotiation. That is the point of our studio model for United States teams.
